I must once again apologize for interrupting the annual meeting arrangements, but I am currently in town and had a nice chat with Jim Kingery, who was presiding at the refurbished museum/visitors center at the Moundbuilders Earthworks on Route 79. (See posts #47 and 54.) We did not initially realize we were fellow '68ers, but gradually determined the other's identity. Jim did not know about the website, so hopefully he'll contribute in the future. I did pass along news of your planned rendevous on August 1 at the Grill. And, yeah, I was haunting some publicly-accessible earthworks for a bit of grounding of soul; running into Jim was a nice, unexpected extra.
Outside agitator, definitely. But I have to run and try to teach some college students who have difficulty recognizing the distinction between "lose" and "loose," something that Dave obviously mastered in that top-notch NHS lernin'.
Well, my plans are set for trip one. I'll be arriving Friday morning July 3 and be there for a week. Anybody up for a get-together at the Grill on Friday nite or whenever? How about golf? Anybody? Bueller... Bueller... Bueller...
HELLO ALL One group is planning on August 1 and another group is planning on meeting up with the Class of 1969 on August 14th. Both are going to be at the Grill, 1671 North 21st Street. Hope to see some of you there!! If anyone is home during Newark High School Football or Basketball, let me know and I will get you tickets and meet you at the game!! Take Care, Peg Dunlap
I'll be in Nerk from July 2 until the morning of the 9th. My cell phone is 208-874-2524. I'd like to get together with anyone interested at some point. Sounds like the Grill on Fridays is the place -- are there preferred times/places?
Well I just found out that Nerk holds it's Fourth of July fireworks on July 3! The family says I have to accompany my granddaughter to the show. So I can't be there on Friday night. How about Saturday night at the same time?
That's a mebbe. I'll be in Granville most of the day, and that can be a rough crowd sometimes (I went to kindergarten with a lot of G-ville folks, like Mary Ann Miller, who graduated with us in Nerk). Dang, ended up in the parade last year! I'll still try to hit the Grill on Friday. 208-874-2524 if other times are better.
Iwill be at the Grill On August 1st too. Hope to see a lot of you. Malcolm, sorry that we didn't make any more connections, but it was nice to see you. Be sure to give me a hollar the next time and we will go out for a beer.
While all you folks are gathering at the Grill tomorrow, there will be a mini-reunion in Spokane WA of Paul Miller, Malcolm, and myself, not counting our retinues. Are the planets aligned for some sort of cosmic continental Class of '68 mind meld? Problem is the time difference and the fact that my wife and I land (theoretically) in Seattle at noon and have to drive over to Spokane for our rendezvous with the aforementioned Northwest 'Cats. If you Grillites want to check in, try me at 347-228-0445.
I'm headed up early to catch up with Paul before Roger and Emily get there (only 90 miles). My cell is 208-874-2524. If anyone has Verizon, it's a free call. We are on Pacific Time.
Too bad we can't be in Spokane and The Grill at the same time -- it sounds like quite the gathering! We'll be thinking of you. And probably gossiping about you, just like you will be gossiping about us. ;-)
Spencer, I ran out of time -- I could have easily spent another week in Nerk. I'll be back next July 4, so let's make sure we get together then.
Had a great visit at The Grill with a lot of my NHS classmates I hadne't seen in a very very long time. Mary "Ellen" and Becky thanks so much for making the trip, it meant a lot to me.
It is something that should be done every year on a certain evening just to catch up with friend who are in town or Newarkites.
Did you remember we had a newspaper? Thanks Jan Burch Campbell for the memories.
Steve your family is delightful, have a safe trip going back over the "big" pond.
My family and I also had a great time. Thanks to everyone that kept the boys going, especially with the Yearbook.
I thought the Grill was a very good suggestion Jane. Most of Newark seems to pass through on a Saturday night.
We took some pictures during the reunion which I think came out very well. They are posted under my profile. As we took them quite quickly we missed out Chris Gill, Steve Carlson, Dave Messick, and John Babcock, who weren't there when we were snapping.
Send me a message if you want any original copies.
I would definitely be up for another informal gathering of this type next year. I had a lot of fun.
Anybody going to be around on the 13th - 18th? The class of '69 will be at the Grill on the 14th and the class of '67 will be there the next night. I'm coming up from Georgia on the 13th.
Paul and I had a wonderful but too brief visit with Roger and Emily last weekend. We had an excellent Northwest seafood dinner at a downtown restaurant sitting on a deck overlooking the Spokane River Falls. Good food, good wine, and good friends -- it doesn't get better than that!
We stayed up way late, and they had to leave early the next day for Glacier National Park. I don't know how that went as they had to have some serious jet lag, having flown from NYC to Seattle, then driving for hours before staying up late in Spokane. I suspect that, by body time, they were up for 24 hours straight. Glacier, though -- what a place to rest up!
Gosh guys and gals, Boy am I johnny (actually Chuck) come lately. I was in Nerk for my wife's 40th reunion and visiting with my in-laws. Bummer I didn't know about this website until late Saturday (8/15) night. So I misses the 68ers at the Grill, though I was there as a dutiful spouse of a 69er. My wife is the former Barbara Pricer of WCLT family fame. Now she is Barbara Price. I think she married me just so she wouldn't have to change her name much. She wasn't into the hyphenated thing Pricer-Price has a certain ring though!
Out of touch for so long but a lot of my crowd has posted, and I look forward to getting to know those other 68ers that I was too shy to know at NHS. Good to catch up a little through these posts. I put a very brief summary and a few pics in my profile if anyone is interested.
I will definitely try to make the 45th reunion if not seeing folks before. My email is cprice@pol.net and Barbara and I are living in Reno. The Reno-Tahoe area is a beautiful place to visit if anyone is in the area... Home phone is 775-786-2569.
Malcolm's report on our Spokane mini-reunion, including Paul Miller, was accurate in all respects. It started our two weeks in the Northwest on a very high note. I only regret we really did not have the time to do more than scratch the surface of our memories and present concerns. Of course, our meeting and the concurrent main event in Newark would probably have never come off had it not been for this website. Brava, Ms. Dunlap!
