Dave, I think a tour of the high school is a great idea. It was mostly finished by May of 2013, because that's when our daughter graduated - they have since finessed things a bit and planted grass and a few trees. It's very different from the buildings we knew, especially in the lack of trees and grass. However, no one gets wet or cold now between classes, and this building is air conditioned, which is a huge plus.
If you look at a birds' eye view of it on Google Earth, you'll see that the building sprawls in several directions, like a lobster, and all of them have two stories, connected by long hallways.
There are elevators now, too, to provide access for handicapped students or to transport things.
I have zero knowledge of how to schedule a tour, but I do know the person whom we would contact for that: Seth Roy, who is the PR contact for the school district, and a former education reporter at The Advocate. He is a great young man who has provided the district with amazing resources to make communications far better between students and teachers and parents and the community. A big win.
A further thought on the get-together: I do think that a lot of activities and expense is a thing that has kept many members of our class away. Lots of us - me at the top of that list, most likely - do not like parties or dances or high-octane social situations. A low-key event will be far more attractive to lots of people. My idea of a perfect reunion would be about 7 hours (5 to midnight?) of mostly unplanned time where people can sit wherever they like and just talk. The less fuss, the better. Very casual.
