Jan Burch and Larry Campbell - 1968 Prom.  What a cute couple - still together after all these years.

The picture of Larry and I was taken prior to going out for dinner before the prom. Thanks for posting the picture Larry. You made it look pretty good for the poor quality of picture you had to work with, Jan

I am sad and disappointed to say I won't be attending after all. A rare opportunity came up to buy a place here in my little hamlet of Palouse, Washington, and I'm jumping on it. I'll be a first-time homeowner at age 68. Makes me shake my head at the thought. Anyway, I hope everyone has a fun and wonderful time reminiscing. I would like to buy a CD, if I may.

Congratulations on being a new homeowner, Malcolm.  I hope the walk to the bar will be closer now.  Sorry I won't be able to help you move in, but hold off on the house-warming party until I can get there.  If you can't wait, we could always have a second party when I can get there.  You will be missed on the crusing around Nerk that we have talked about in our recent messages.  I will miss the weekends spent sleeping on your couch and hope to see you as soon as reasonable.  Good luck my friend.

Malcolm, Hope your new home is as commodious as the ancestral Montgomery estate in Newark, which dazzled the young McDonald on his first visit like some village rube invited to Downton Abbey.  But now we classmates lose the chance to see if your threads retain the casual panache you displayed in '62!  (See #533, front row, second from right.)

Thank you all for the thoughts. Believe me when I say this is nothing special and needs a lot of work. But I needed a ground-level walk-in with wide passages because I don't get around so well anymore. A modified double wide (yup, a treller, in Ahia-ese) provides this. I am a two minute walk to downtown at mosey pace. Way more space than I need! Anyway, after twelve years with no room for visitors, I have that now for anyone who finds themselves in the provinces. Have fun, all, and I am truly sorry to miss our 50th as, like Steve mentioned, I haven't seen many of you since our gradualtion. BTW, after Mom passed away in 2011, among the things she saved for each of her kids was my graduation program. No pictures, but I didn't really need any to refresh my memory. Cheers!

Hi Malcolm!  You will be missed at the Reunion this year!  I totally understand and hope all goes well with you and being a first time home owner.  I have never been to your part of the country and would love to head that way in the next few years.  Take Care and enjoy "moseying" into town.

Peg

Toad!

Damn. Been looking forward to seeing you again since the last time I found you several years ago sitting at the Broadway Pub in Granville. Sounds like you made a good decision so I'm happy for you. I'm retired now and have thought a lot about getting around to see other parts of the country that I haven't already seen and your neck of the woods is one of them. May have to schedule a road trip next spring while we're both still alive. Take care my friend!

Hi Malcolm, I too am sorry you will miss the reunion.  As you also live in Washington State, I was hoping to touch base.  If you ever cross the mountains to this side of the state and need a place to stay, we have extra bedrooms.  Enjoy your new home.

Thanks for the reminder, Chris.   I guess I have to work off my bucket list items in my 70s.  Good thing I only have a handful remaining.  I deleted joining the Champions golf tour from my list after 49 years of expectation.  To those of you who signed up for the golf outing, I only play for the camaradie and fun of the game now, unless I get an offer I can't refuse.  Looking so forward to seeing everyone at the reumion that I will be arriving on the 21st in case I get an offer to play golf prior to the 25th.  I will be accessible by phone at 509 979-8576.  Go Wildcats!

Again, thank you all for the kind thoughts! Paul Miller can tell you more about this neck of the woods as he has been here longer. Six hours from Seattle, Glacier NP, Boise, if you want to go (sorry Beth Ann ;)), a two hour hike into the largest roadless area in the lower 48, stuff like that. Anyone is welcome, and it’s worth the ride. I do hope all have fun!

Margaret, I may show up at your door someday! Thanks for the offer!

Don't worry Chris. In 12 years time 80 will be the new 60. BTW, I hope many of you are bringing your other halves. I've promised Vicky, my wife, that she will have plenty of people to hang out with her.

Hello Everyone,

The Reunion committee is getting excited about all of the reservations coming in for our "50th" Class Reunion on August 24, 25, and tour on the 26 of August.  The deadline (August 17) is fast approaching!  We are required to have our numbers in to our cater!  Please make sure you have sent your check to Linda Brucker at 246 Sherwood Drive N.  Newark, Ohio 43055.

We have 120 classmates so far and that number is going up daily.  We have close to 200 total attending...YEA.  Please call me or send me a message if you are having difficulty getting on to make a reservation.   We realize e-mails have changed and passwords have been forgotten.  We can get you on easily.  Also, if you know of anyone who doesn't like computers, we can take care of that!  We would Love to see everyone from the Great Class of 1968!

Also, a reminder the Reunion Committee elected to make our contribution in honor of our "50th" to A CALL TO COLLEGE.  If you are able!  Below is just a little of what they do.

A non-profit 501(c)(3) college access organization in Newark, OH, A Call to College partners exclusively with the Newark City School District.  Working closely with the staff, teachers and building principals across the school system, and the superintendent’s office, our services have impacted thousands of Newark students and parents over the years. From introducing second graders to the vocabulary of college to helping seniors complete their Free Application For Federal Student Aid, the staff and an army of community volunteers focus intensely and efficiently on promoting education beyond high school. Accomplishments include:

  • Awarding over 3 million dollars of need-based aid to qualified Newark High School graduates over the past twenty-three years;
  • Increasing ACT test completion rates for juniors twenty-five fold since the inception of the ACT Now! program in 2007;
  • Forming an innovative partnership in 2009 with Central Ohio Technical College, Denison University and The Ohio State University at Newark to begin a comprehensive early college awareness program in the Newark elementary and middle schools;
  • Securing over one half million dollars of grant funding to support direct services programming since 2006;
  • Receiving the Thomas L. Conlan Award, sponsored by the KnowledgeWorks Foundation, in recognition for excellence and creativity in inspiring students to pursue post-secondary education;
  • Being named 2014 Non-profit Of The Year by the Licking County Chamber of Commerce

Thank you Everyone and looking forward to seeing all of you soon.

Peg
