     Donald Raymond Heisler, age 73, of Newark, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the OSU James Cancer Center. He was born in Newark, Ohio on June 9, 1950.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyne and Helen (Rutherford) Heisler, his birth mother, (Esther Smith), and his furry companion, Atilla.

     He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Valerie (Hartley) Heisler; sons, Damien R.  (Lora) Heisler and Justin (Ashlee) Heisler; grandchildren, Peyton, Brandon, Becky, Kassia (Ryan), Jayce, Jonah, and Jathan; great-grandchildren, Maya, Jamison, and Aubriella; sister and brother-in-law, Linda (Tim) Meadows; Betty Miller and JoJo Spencer; along with several other siblings, and furry friend and companion, Blitzn.

     Donald loved the weekend and day trips taken with his wife. He was a history buff, an outdoors man, and a collector of coins and military memorabilia. He was an avid reader with a love for books of all kinds.  He loved spending time with his family and in return, he was fiercely loved by all of them.

     Visitation will be held from 3-5pm Thursday, October 12, 2023, at the Christian Apostolic Church, 22 N 23rd St, Newark, Ohio 43055.  A 5pm funeral service with military honors presented by the Licking County Veterans Alliance will take place immediately following visitation, with Pastor Keith Sjostrand officiating.
