Peggy Gartner (Dunlap)

Hi Everyone,

Sorry haven't been on for awhile.  My life is crazy right now.

I hope to call some people and get a date set.  Jan, I like your idea of the new hotel.  Would you please check that out and see what they have.  And the Grill on Friday night maybe after Football Game if at home.

I also like the first week of September.  September 6 & 7??  Newark goes back August 21.  Not sure whether there is a Home Football Game, but I can find out pretty easy.

Yea Tony, Congrats!!!!! on being inducted in Hall Of Fame.

And thanks for the great picture of Courthouse.  I never miss it!!!  Family tradition.

I am very saddened to tell you we lost another classmate.  I just posted on the memory page the death of Phil Jenkins.  It was in the Advocate Saturday.  Very sorry for Margaret's loss.

Looking Forward to hearing  from all of you.

Peg

So sorry to hear about a Phil. He was a great guy. Prayers to Margaret and family.

Peg have you decided upon anything yet?  I'm trying to get my vacation schedule figured out, so when you have some firm dates, please post them.

Roger... you have any protests lined up??  If you tell me in time, I can start brushing up on my sign carrying and picket prance. Also, do you have the words to Kumbya written down anywhere?

Sorry, Dave, but I may have to miss the event if the decision is to hold it the weekend following Labor Day.  I know I earlier indicated that time would work, but a family commitment has arisen.

Conggradulations, Larry Wilson on your 40th wedding anniversary. Saw it in last Sunday's paper. I've heard we've picked the Newark Metropolitan Hotel for the reunion. Any date set? Is there a room deal? Might just stay the night.

Sorry to report Charlie Snow passed away today. He had been ill and in the hospital with pneumonia. They released him and he died peacefully at home. RIP Charlie. You were truly an inspiration to us all.

Hi Everyone,

Very sorry to post another passing of one of our classmates.   This is the fourth this year that I am aware of......Hopefully, we are  done for awhile.

That has been the most difficult thing about getting older is the loss of friends and family.

The Reunion update is posted on the front page of the website along with an invite from the NHS CLASS OF 1967 to the Grotto on July 20.  I believe they have invited other 60's classes.  It sounds like a great time that I plan on attending.  I hope to see some classmates from our class.

Peg

The Grill on 21st is no more. Mr Mason is now the landlord, but the restaurant is now called "Pub 49". one of the new owners is a professional Hockey player. Plays for a team in Switzerland. Expect changes in menu and many more TV's. It was all in today's Advocate. Apparently 49 was his jersey number. Maybe he'll coach the Newark Generals hockey team.

Hi Steve,

Yes, I saw the article.  I believe Jan talked to them, however we will confirm in the next few weeks.  Hope you are well and I look forward to seeing you soon.

There is a deal for motel room of $95 and that includes breakfast the next day. Make reservation for room before that night if possible. with the price of the meal you will also get dessert. I will talk to manager for Pub 49 and see if they are still going to reserve room for us for Friday night the 27.  Jan Burch Campbell

Jan Carol Burch (Campbell)

Dave Froberg is the first classmate to send in a check for reservation for saturday,Sept 28. Why is it always the out of town people who are most excited about coming?

Thanks Dave. Please, fellow classmates. Make a commitment if you can. As you have seen,we've already lost 4 classmates this year. Would love for as many people to come on Saturday night as possible. A lot of people will say "I see everyone I want to see". Well maybe you are keeping us from missing the blessing of your presence. You might actually meet someone you didn't know in high school. I talked with Steve Lawrence at the last mini-reunion at The Grill on 21st. I didn't know him in high school but that didn't stop me from talking to him that night. So if you have contemplated on coming but think you might not know anyone there, just find me and I'll talk with you, even if we didn't know each other in school. We are never too old to make new friends, and what better way than a class reunion. Come on and send in those reservations. I know it is only June but I would like to get a good idea about the number coming before the last minute. Blessings to all.  Jan

What an extremely nice and kind note - but that is not surprising, coming from you, Jan (you are so nice!). My job prospects are very uncertain now, so I can't commit to it, but I hope everyone has a wonderful time. :)

I think I Will put my Genealogy skills to good use and see how many Missing class mates I can get to join our website and if they can't make it this year, maybe they can make it to our 50th reunion. I have the 2010 NHS Alumni book at home and I see several names in it. Some even list an email address. If anyone knows anything send it to me at stevencarlson43@yahoo.com.

Where to start?

I received a notice that Diana Holmes (Brown) had updated her profile. I didn't know Diana in high school (she was the quiet one), but in the course of everyone's input about the upcoming 40th in 2008 and via this magnificent website (thank you, Peggy), I met Diana at the Grill on 21st St. The idea was for anyone who was in town to meet at The Grill over July 4th that year, but we were the only ones to show up. We had a fun conversation about all the things we didn't share in high school. Pursuant to Jan Burch's contribution on June 18 this year, just start yakking and learn what you missed in school.

That said and while I was in the website, I thought I'd check out the message forum that I had not visited for a while. I was taken aback by the passing of Phil Jenkins and Charlie Snow. I suppose that at our age one should not be surprised by the passing of a classmate or anyone else, but each passing brings us closer to the reality that no, we are not invincible as we once thought. Both were good people who enriched our lives and others. Even though I have had no contact with either since high school, I will miss never seeing them again.

I can't attend the 45th this fall, but I hope everyone has a grand time. I do plan on attending our 50th, whenever and wherever it is, as that is the year I've set to retire. Of course, if the lottery intervenes, I'll have more flexibility. Somebody take LOTS of pictures this fall and post them here.

Cheers,

Malcolm

I know Peg has been busy and didn't get a chance to change the information about our Friday night get together on Sept.27th. Instead of the former Grill on 21st,now called Pub 49,we have changed to Damon's on Granville Rd.,across from the old Frisch's. Time is still 5-9 with half price drinks and appetizers. Many people have not been satisfied with the food at Pub 49, and we want a place where you can enjoy the evening.

I just found out today that Anita More Butts who was in our class died 3 years ago in an automobile accident. She had pancreatic cancer at the time. She was married to John Butts, class of 1967 and an original Fabulous Pendletons guitar player. They were no longer married when she passed. They had seven children together. They lived in Zanesville . My family and I got together with them several times after hooking up at the class of 67 reunion. Anita was a loving mother and a gracious hostess. She seemed to have the patience of Job. All the children were beautiful and so well behaved. I'm sorry for her loss. I think she had a sister that passed away with cancer not long before that.

Is there someway this site can show who has sent in their reservation?? I think we did for the last reunion.

Jan, that is terrible news, but thank you so much for sharing it with us. I had no clue that this had happened. Very sad. I always thought Anita was so warm and generous of spirit; a huge loss to her family and community.

Hi Everyone,

The reunion committee met and decided to change the location of the Friday Night Mixer.  I think everyone would agree Damon's will be the better choice.  They are giving us the back room to ourselves.  Sorry it took so long to get on the website. frown Tournaments got in my way.

I am investigating sending a mass e-mail out, but so far we have so many bouncebacks (e-mails no longer the same), that I am not sure how much good it will do.  But....I will send.  I did not know about Anita, how very sad.  She was a wonderful person and a great mother.  Hopefully we can locate the correct year and date.

Thanks for the great words Jan, and I agree it is fun just to see everyone and talk whether we were friends in school or even remember each other from the great class of "1968"

Mike Kelly has agreed to try and organize a golf get-together if anyone would like to help out.

I go back to work August 1, so I will make sure our reunion is on the Newark City Schools website and we will try to advertise on the radio.

Word of mouth is one of the very best ways to get the word out.  Tell who you know and have them tell others.

Peg
