Diana Holmes (Brown)

For anyone not already aware, Greg Darnes passed away December 4 unexpectedly.  Apparently he has been experiencing some health problems for a while.  He is survived by his daughter and sister.

Thanks, Diana. I last saw Greg at Miller's Eisenplatz (sp?) about five years ago (maybe more, time flies) and had a nice conversation with him. He had a neat store on Church Street that specialized in interior lighting and repair -- expecially antique fixtures -- that my parents patronized.

On a brighter side, my best wishes to all for a prosperous and healthy New Year. I hope to visit Nerk over the 4th of July, so maybe whoever is in the area can meet up at The Grill.

Hi Everyone!

Happy New Year!  I hope we all have a HEALTHY New Year.

I know a lot of people are getting close to retirement, so if you are one of the LUCKY ones, I hope you enjoy it to the max.

I will work a couple more years the good Lord willing.  Then I will join Butch in retirement.  Both of my parents are still alive and doing extremely well.  My Dad will be 90 in February and my Mom 89 in August.  I have been truly blessed with two awesome parents, five older brothers and one adorable sister.  We all live in Newark and we have grown to 69 strong.  I have a total of 11 to contribute to the Gartner Family.

With that said, Donetta and I are trying to keep pictures and updates on this site, please let us know if there is anything we could add.  Class of 67 should be having a reunion this year and ours will be next year.  I honestly am thinking about doing a three year group reunion or maybe even more (kinda like the one at the VFW this past year.)  THOUGHTS??  It will be completely informal without any committment to attend.  Hopefully, we can find a place to have it.

Take Care Everyone and God Bless!

Peggy

This forum has been pretty sleepy lately . . . Froberg awake!   I just wanted to report on a recent mini-reunion of the Northeast and Trans-Atlantic branches.  On Friday, Jan. 27th, Deborah Hall, myself, and Dennis Odle (class of 1970) formed part of the cheering section for Edward (Edo) Lawrence, towering 7'2" son of Steve and Vicky Lawrence, during his high school's basketball game against a visiting rival in New Milford, Connecticut.  Steve and Vicky had fashioned  "Go Edo" and other signs that we waved with enthusiasm.  Edo managed to surmount the embarrassment and pounded the boards and clogged the lane nicely.  Much to our satisfaction, the locals won and we all repaired to a nearby restaurant to celebrate, catch up on our lives, and wonder at the sight of Steve Lawrence looking up to speak to his son.

Hi Dave...and Everyone,

Yes, I am Here.  OK folks, next year is fast approaching and we need to come up with a date for our "45th" Class Reunion.....YIKES.  Hard to believe.  I don't feel that old....

Anyone wishing to help, please let me know.

On a Side Note....I gotta tell you, my son teaches Math at Newark High and Butch and I toured it after church today.  It is GORGEOUS and hard to believe.  One thing I want to set-up is a tour of the school next year during the reunion.  If you live here and haven't seen it, you won't believe it.  If you don't live here....Wait until you see it.  Newark has all new schools, it is great place to live and to work.

Alright, I have to get to bed, teachers are back tomorrow.

Peggy

Hi Peg.... You looking at a summer reunion, like July?  I will help, but don't know what I can do from Georgia. But let me know if you need me.

Don't know....What are your thoughts on a date?  We really need input.

I have no preference and can be there almost any time. I have a couple of big meetings the first part of June, and the first part of October which I am committed to, but other than that any time.  Would most folks like mid summer of when it is cooler?  September might be nice.

How about the same time of the year we had our last one? Trout club would be a great place and I would be willing to help in any way. Also we need to look at a place for a mixer the night before. A golf outing would be great for the guys like we did the last time. Call me keep me updated for meetings and ect. Mike Kelley 344-6117.

Hi Mike and Dave,

Yes, I think we should look at the first of September next year.  I think maybe the week-end after Labor Day week-end.  I figured maybe the Grill on Friday night mixer.  I think everyone liked that the last time.

Trout club was a good place last time.  Also, the Grotto is renting again.

A new Hotel downtown is nice too.

Thoughts???

Peg

First two weeks of August are no good for me, likewise Labor Day weekend.  But Peg's suggestion of following weekend might work.  I always have had a sentimental attachment to downtown, so the hotel suggestion sounds appealing.  And I can't think of any reason--at the moment--why I might protest the site.

Hey Peg sounds good and like said, I will be willing to help out in what ever way you need me to. Keep in touch 344-6117.

I can help in any way since I am now retired. I think fall is a good time..september would be great. Just let me know what you would like me to do. The banquet room at the Newark Metropoltan Hotel is nice but I'm not sure how many people it holds. I can find out. Just had a luncheon there yesterday,my first LMH retiree's luncheon.

A get together at the Grill the night before is good. I think everyone likes that and they are always so accomodating. Some classes have gotten together at the Buckeye Winery, but I don't think it is big enough.

Weekend after Labor Day weekend sounds good to me. Either Trout Club or Grotto. Both are fine. Mixer at the Grill seems to be the thing to do for everybody. If you don't want to hire a band, I have plenty of music. Would just need a sound system like we did at Moundbuilders. (Uhhh did you miss that one Roger??? LOL!)  Any thoughts on maybe a Newark HS football game? I hear they aren't so hot lately. Maybe we could bring them a little luck.

Let me know.

Yes, Dave, I missed the sound system, but over the past few years have been savoring the discs you compiled from '67-'68.  Useful to listen to when contemplating the obits of talent from those days.  Once again, thanks for preserving the memories.

Licking Valley is having a reunion Aug 30, 31, Labor Day weekend.  It would sure be handy for us to have Newark's Sept 6 or Aug 23.  Tom went to Licking Valley through his Junior year and gets invited to their reunions.

Great picture and Newark can be proud of the lighting year after year of the courthouse. Always the day after Thanksgiving. My Dad took me when I was little, I took my daughters, and now take my grandkid each year.

Thought people from out of town would enjoy a picture from home. Originally sponsered by local government, then fell victim to budget cuts, now privately funded by community. This is a great place to live. Now it looks like the bike path will soon go from Johnstown to Lakewood High School.
