The class of 1966 did their reunion at Trout Club this past weekend. They did it all there. Friday, Saturday and golf. Also had a tour of NHS with a brunch.

I've heard good and bad about Trout Club. It's a little expensive and the '66 bunch said Fri nite they had a band that was so loud you couldn't hear anybody talk. They said Sat. nite was fine. Both good and bad reviews of food.

My husband and I love TheTrout Club!  We dine there at least once a week.  I've worked with their Event Coordinator for a large family event and had a very good experience. Think it would be a great site for a reunion.

You guys mean for the many of us who have never been to the Trout Club, we would finally have to learn the way? Oh

NO - the HORROR, the horror... LOL   Seriously, I like the idea of including a tour of the new NHS.

Damn....Now I have to figure out how to get to the Trout Club.  It's tough enough getting to Newark

Trout Club!!!! I used to live there that's where my son made me look bad every time we played.Really like what they have done and the improvements they have made. Would a fun place to have the reunion. Don't worry Larry I'll help you find your way.

There aren't any Indian mounds at the Trout Club, are there?

Seriously, the venue sounds fine to me.  I would like to make a proposal unrelated to where we meet.  It seems fitting that, after 50 years, our class might collectively give something back to the community.  For example, the "Call to College" program at Newark High provides assistance to a pretty good number of students for college and advanced vocational training.  If 100 of us kicked in $50, that's $5000 from the Class of '68 that could help some very deserving kids.  That seems a realistic goal.  Good idea?

Thanks for an excellent suggestion Roger-I'm in if it takes off.

Didn't we do our 30th at the trout club??  Went there today with my lunch bunch at flint ridge village. Not that impressed.  AS to a charity, I agree that we should have one. Does anyone nknow if Newark is a pay to play school?  I think I read about some fund to help with that.

Love this idea.  Let's do it!

Roger has an excellent idea, and our 50th would be a great time to do it.

A lot more practical than a new bench and a lot cheaper than a new building. I'm all for it.

It is a nice idea. Is there an existing charity to add to, or would a charity have to be developed? Would it be a single-time donation or an annual donation open to all alumni after the first year?

Patti Ridenour (Adams)

I agree with the idea Roger, especially since it is for both college or vocational training (I teach students with learning problems)!

Find a charity that has a 501c tax excemtion

I still prefer the scholarship as I think it will have the most returns over time, especially if used for vocational training. I don't know if or how well that scholarship fund is endowed, but perhaps it can become self-sustaining.

Good idea, Roger - hope we can get AT LEAST 100 - there are quite a few of us left ... and I'm in for the Trout Club too. I think I remember how to get there from our 30th. Not sure if I will in two years, but fingers crossed.yes

The feedback on my proposal has been very gratifying.  This is something we don't have to worry about for another year or so.  I just wanted to stimulate some thought on what we could do, rather than merely where we should gather.  Meanwhile, I urge anyone checking these posts to visit acalltocollege.org to see if you think that route is a worthy method of "giving back."  They are, to address Gary's point, a 501(c) non-profit.  I erred on the side of caution when I said $5000 as a goal.  If more than 100 contribute, great!  (We could, realistically I believe, make it a $100 dollar contribution, with a $10,000 goal.)   The Call to College folks also seem to spread the money they receive around in a thoughtful, prudent way.  I imagine we could have them create a "Class of 1968" pot and therefore the hassle for us individually would be no more difficult than a website visit or writing a check.  I also think at this point that we should plan this as a 50th Anniversary "one-off," and leave any more permanent arrangement for the Fall of 2018 when we gather.  By then, we may have more medical bills . . . .  Meanwhile, if no one objects, I can write them sometime by the end of the year to enquire about the mechanics.  Do we have any class officers or other voices who could weigh in on this?

Whatever we are going to do, sooner is better than later. In the last 12 months I have had a leg amputation, a heart attack, a stroke and just had a triple bypass in June. A lot of vultures have their eyes on my money including medical establishments and family. No guarantee I'll make it to 2018 but
I'll try.

Hi folks. I read the suggestions and examined the acalltocollege.org website. They appear to be doing a tremendous job. I like that they manage the donations for us and connect students to vocational options. I was very impressed with their interactions with young students. I think it might be nice to start the fund raising/collecting before the end of the year. Perhaps at the reunion the the total raised by the class of '68 would give us an extra reason to celebrate! And Steve - take care of yourself!

I think you have an excellent idea, Roger. I visited acalltocollege.org website and liked their work with the Newark School District. Thanks, Roger.

Great idea, Roger.  I support this and also like the idea of starting the collection prior to the reunion.
