Go Wildcats! Newark beat Zanesville Wednesday in a hard fought game. One Newark player required stitches above his eye. Beating Zanesville is almost as good as beating Michigan. On second thought, it's better. Newark will play Dresden Tri-Valley on Saturday for the Central District championship.

On a different note, the metamorphis of the Grill on 21st continues. It will soon reopen as a Bag of Nails restaurant. BON is a Columbus chain with 12 of their 15 restaurants in the Columbus area. """"Never been to one, but my brother says they are good. Specialty is fish and chips. It appears to be mostly simple seafood: fish, shrimp, crab cakes, etc. They do have a strip steak on the menu though.  Still don't know what was wrong with the old grill?? They had decent steak, great ribs and good bar food. Oh well, they didn't ask me.

If memory serves me well, Zanesville was "our" big rival when we were in school.

Is it still?

Could someone please post about the music department as that was my place at NHS.

Blessings all:)

Congratulations Newark Wildcats  The boys team won the district and is moving on tothe regional.  Not to be outdone the girls team won their first ever regional title and is going to the state semi-final. Wouldn't it be great if Mr Beadle could give them both a GO NEWARK cheer. I'm sure he's with them in spirit. Often wondered how the girls of 68 would have done if they had organized sports with paid coaches. Also a special congratulations to Kym Royster for being named division 1 co-player of the year. GO WILDCATSWe are proudof you.

First let me respond to my long time friend from the First Methodist Church, Paula Christian. I also spent time in the music building. I was in the concert choir for 3 years. Someone must have heard you because there was a nice article in Wednesday's paper. The choral department is directed by Mike and Kim Wigglesworth. Don't know but assume they are married. There are currently 4 groups: the concert choir, the girls concert chorale, the girls freshmen chorus, and some sort of boys chorus. They recently competed at Granville in a district contest and did well. They have received an invite to the State Choir finals in Massilon on April 24, 2015. Not sure which are going. Think it will be the concert choir and maybe the girls concert chorale. The 50th annual Spring Choral Concert is scheduled for May 15, 2015. Don't know any other details.

Now back to sports. I forgot to mention that Kym Royster, "Newark's 6 foot 2 senior forward has signed a letter of intent to play for Indiana University. We should be able to watch her play at the next level. My wish has been granted. Tim Mercer now does a Mr Beadle Cheer. Even to the point of matching the coat and tie. Newark Boys were outsized in their regional loss to Westerville. Still a great season, 21 and 6 with a district title.  There is no shame to your game this year. The girls play tonight in the state semi-final. It will be carried on WCLT AM.  Still have the Buckeyes who won yesterday and will play Arizona Saturday.

One more quick note. Those of you that live out of town. "You may be able to get WCLT AM on line. Not sure of time but think 8 o'clock.

Thanks Steve for letting me know about the music dept.  I was hoping that a musical was coming up.

My main remembrance of Mr. Beadle was his "teaching" us how to recite the Pledge of allegiance.  He was very insistent on "one nation under God" being a phrase without a break.

His enthusiasm  as I look back was extrodinary.

On a sad note, I saw that my junior teacher passed away.  Mrs. Schmitt worked very hard with this student.  I remember the types of paragraphs we were taught, the oral book report, all the Shakespeare, etc.

All done. The Buckeye Ladys Lost and now all my teams are done. What to do?? I don't like the NBA, Don't understand hockey and baseball doesn't start for two weeks. Maybe I can clean those horrible closets.  Retirement is rough. I do have the falcons on the state office tower to watch. They have laid 3 eggs so far. Go to Columbusfalconcam and click live feed

Anyway thanks Newark High boys and girls basketball. You had a great season. Newark is very proud of you.

I live near Kentucky and West Virginia.

So I am going to hope that West Virginia does the unthinkable and beats Kentucky :)

We lost another member of the class of 68. It is sad to inform eveyone of the passing of Gary Luzio. I knew him since the Wilson JHS days and was good friends with his brother Jon.
