George A. Goumas

1950 - 2023

George A. Goumas, 73 of Newark passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones after a several year, hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

George was well known in the community as the “Candyman” and worked hard for 45+ years to continue the legacy that his grandfather started in 1911 at The Original Goumas Candyland, that he now leaves in the capable hands of his two daughters that he was so very proud of.

He enjoyed traveling the world, boating, fishing, eating a great Greek meal and watching his grandchildren play their sports. He was incredibly proud of each of them and enjoyed visiting with them often. George also loved and cared for his treasured dogs Chloe and Shadow. He was a life-long member of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

He is survived by his beloved and dedicated wife, Marilyn; his two daughters, Patty Goumas-Durbin (John) and Keely Goumas-Perry (Tony); four adored grandchildren, Max and Alexis Durbin; Olivia and Ella Perry. He is also survived by three siblings, Soc Goumas, Greg Goumas and Viann Yankulov.

George is preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Bessie Goumas.

Calling hours will be held Sunday August 27th from 1pm. to 3pm at the Newark Chapel of Vensil and Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in George’s name to Hospice of Central Ohio, Attn: Philanthropic Development, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, SE, Newark, OH 43055.
