Larry Wilson

I just received a note through Carolyn Ford Butcher's profile from her daughter, Kelley, that Carolyn passed away September 6th in Florida.  Kelley said she suffered from health issues and died peacefully.  May Carolyn rest in peace.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

Our gift to our Alma Mater in honor of our 50th Class Reunion is donating to the Scholarship Fund for Newark High School students through "A Call to College."  You can check their website at www.acalltocollege.org/Donors.aspx to download a form to make a donation.  A Call to College will leave the form open for our class until OCTOBER 15, 2018.  Please make sure you put the Class of 1968 on the form so we can get a class total.  We currently have raised $7,000, but we would like to get that number up to $10,000.  Any donation is acceptable and greatly appreciated.

My condolences to Jeff Danford and family in the passing of Sarah Danford. There is a wonderful article in the Newark Advocate about Sarah and what a loss she is to Granville Elementary where she taught for 46 years. You took great care of her Jeff.  Hugs to you,Jan Burch Campbell

We received this thank you from Call to College.  Again, thank you all for contributing to this worthwhile project.  This was a great legacy for the NHS Class of 1968 to leave for our future college students.

Roger McDonald

I have a pretty good Class of '68 "small world" story . . . .  Yesterday, Emily and I went to a small art institute on Broome Street in the Nolita (North of Little Italy, what's left of it) area of Manhattan.  We sat on a bench in the entry hallway awaiting the arrival of some friends.  As the entry to the institute was not well-marked, I worried that they might wander by, so after a bit I walked over to the glass door to scrutinize the few passers-by on this frigid Saturday morning, wrapped up against the chill.  After a few minutes, one heavily bundled gent glanced at me while walking past and stopped.  He stared for a few seconds and then turned to call to someone farther along the street and out of my sight.  He reached for the door, which I opened, and asked, "Are you Roger McDonald?"  "Yes," I replied, "but how did you know?"  Then he whipped off his woolen cap, loosened his thick scarf, and proclaimed "I'm Jeff Danford!"  I was stunned; this was not Times Square.  When his party returned to the institute, Jeff identified me to his family, they all met Emily, and Jeff then proceeded to tell his grandkids some whoppers about my prowess in Little League.  I'm ashamed to say I let him.  We tried to provide some guidance to the few remaining Italian restaurants in the area, especially where there might be some historical significance like Joey Gallo's bloody demise in Umberto's Clam House.  So, the next time anyone is in the Big Apple, glance in the doorways and you might be surprised!  It was, all told, a sweet '68 moment . . . .  (Perhaps someone else has a similar "small world" story to share?  I vaguely recall an amazing one related by Malcolm Montgomery long ago that involved a phone call in the Northwest, but the details have dimmed with time and my woeful memory.)

I just wanted to update everyone on Linda Korns.  She has colon cancer and just found out she has thyroid cancer also.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She's a strong woman and doing remarkably well so far.  Just thought the extra prayers might help her beat both of these.

What a great group of friends we have here praying for Linda!  Once again, this reminds me of how great it was to all be together at our reunion this past August and renew all of these friendships!  It is wonderful we can all share in uplifting Linda during this difficult time in her life!

I'm so glad Linda went to the reunion.  She has received so much support and I am very thankful for that.  Thank you everyone who has been responding and for thinking of Linda.  I want her to beat this cancer.  It was bad enough that she had colon cancer but to get thyroid too is unthinkable. She is handling it very well though.  Very proud of her!!

We received this information about Steve Mix from Belinda (Binnie) Smith Phillips.  May Steve rest in peace.

Deceased Classmate: Stephen Mix
Date Deceased: December-3-2012
Age at Death: 62:
Classmate City: McConnelsville
Classmate State: OH
Survived By: Wife, Irene, and daughter, Francine, both of California. And a sister, Kim Mix, of Newark.

Steve was my 1st cousin. He had many health issues and had withdrawn from most back in 80s. He had moved to McConnellsville where his dad lived, and worked on a Mennonite farm. He helped take care of his dad when he had cancer and passed away. Steve stayed on at the Mennonite farm and when his health deteriorated that family took care of him. He was active in their church and being a Mennonite service, there was not a public obituary. I was unable to attend the service, but I stay in touch with my cousin, Kim, Steve's sister.

I, too, am happy for the information on Linda.  She is in my thoughts and prayers. I am wondering if someone would contact her to see if it would be ok to list her name on the prayer chain of my church. Thanks all.
