Debbie and I booked a room at the Cherry Valley Lodge for $81.00 per night. With that rate, we hope they are still in business when we arrive in August! We have stayed there over the years and the place was well-kept, but we have not been there in the last 5 years or so.

Looking forward to hanging out with a bunch of seniors with stories of their past......just like every day at our Del Webb community!

Thanks Mike and John for sharing. I am going to call Marott on Church

Street and call the Cherry Valley Lodge back. They didn't get back with me and I have given them a week.

I know Jery and Debbie booked at Cherry Valley from previous post. Has anybody else booked a room?

Thank all of you for your work.  Online, the Marriott Courtyard ranges from $119 to $139 depending.  Is anyone negotiating a deal for the Marriott?  My husband and I plan to attend, although Southwest Airlines has not opened up any flight dates past early August on their website. This seems unusual.  Let me know if there is anything I can do in the way of help once in Ohio.

Hi everyone, I have been to the Courtyard at Marriott but could not negotiate anything better than $119 a night. I asked about the Senior rate of $109.65 that Mike booked and was told that price was no longer available. I was told the rates change as the bookings increase. If you can still book on line at that rate,go ahead. I have a block of 15 rooms at $119 .Those dates are from August 24th  and 25th, with checkout on the 26th. They are holding 2 rooms in that block for August 23rd, but would increase the number if more people come in on the 23rd and want a room. The rate for the room for month of August is currently $124 a night. The cutoff date to reserve at this rate is July 24th,2018.I toured the hotel and is is nice and clean. The room is a single room with a queen bed and a foldout couch. you can call the toll free reservation line at 877-924-9569. They have an indoor pool,no complimentary breakfast. Also a small exercise room, but if someone wants more they partner with Maximum Fitness on Church Street a block away for $5 per person and just have to show room key. When you call say that you are with Newark 50th Class Reunion.   Couldn't get a block of rooms at Cherry Valley Lodge at the price that Jerry and Debble got on line, so I was tolld that you should go ahead and book on line individually, the sooner the better. Still waiting on contract to arrive for Doubletree, but that rate is $115 a night. they are holding 15 rooms until July 24th.  I will post the code to use as soon as I get the contract from them. I did not check out hotels in Heath, but that may be an option for some. Our event will be in Heath on Saturday. More info to come regarding that.  Fondly,Jan Campbell

I doubt if we could play it at the reunion but I was going through some LP's today and found a jacket marked Sounds of Newark High 1968 by the girls glee club.

After booking at the Courtyard today and asking why the Senior rate was lower than the "special reunion rate", I received the following email:

"I talked with my sales manager about the group block rate coming up higher than the Marriott senior rate which did not make sence.  He adjusted the group block rate to $109/night."

Go for it.

My husband and I booked the Marriott Courtyard for Th, F, and Sat.  We booked a king.  My husband Bill booked it.  Not sure what our rate was; he didn’t know about either the senior or reunion rate, but we partially used points.  He’ll probably call again and see.  I know the kind of room also plays a factor.  Next, airfare.  We plan to actually be in Ohio longer prior to the reunion staying in Columbus where he is from.  I want to ride the bike path on Thursday; is there a bike rental place anyone can suggest?

Hi Everyone!,

Your Reunion committee met last night and toured the Friday night site and finalized many things for our class reunion.  We hope to have everything; prices, food, places, golf, and tour completely finished after our March 12th meeting. We are all working hard to keep the prices down and the places suitable!

All of the information will be on our Class Website and our Facebook page!!  There will be details about where to send in your reservation and there will be complete details about what has been planned.  If you know or you are in contact with any class members who are not computer savvy, please have them contact one of the reunion members.  Unfortunately, we are not able to fund nor do we have the time to send out mail notices to all of our classmates.  Thank you for understanding!

Just a reminder, if you have any pictures, we are putting together collages and would love to add any pictures you may have.  You can send them to us e-mail or message any of us and we can figure it out.  Also, you can make your own collages and bring them with you!

Thank You to the Fabulous committee.  Donetta Phillips Kirk, Jan Burch Campbell, Charlotte Barch McPeek, Kathy Applegate Danner, Linda Miller Brucker, Steve Spain, Bob White, Curtis Puryear, Larry Wilson, Marty Lange, Dwight Zahrndt, Mike Kelley, David Smith, Jerry Mears.  Out of State helpers, Jane Michener and Nancy Baughman!!  They are all working hard to make our Class Reunion a fun time for all.

Blessings to All,

Peg

Many, many thanks to Peg and all the others in Newark laying the groundwork for the reunion.  I believe it was accepted that we would memorialize the occasion via a "Class of 1968" contribution to "A Call to College."  Where does that arrangement stand?

02/19/18 09:36 PM #502

Peggy Gartner (Dunlap)

Hi Roger,

Yes, the committee decided we would donate to Call To College and felt that would be a Great thing to do for our "50th" Class Reunion.  We are finalizing the details and we will have it posted after our meeting on the 12th of March.  Classmates will be able to donate early or the weekend of the Reunion.

Thanks for the complimentsmiley, everyone is working hard to make this a reunion to remember.

Peg

Thank You, Larry Nethers ,for the info about the change in the room rate at the Marriott. I called the sales manager,Stacey Curry to confirm that he did change the room rate to $109,and he said he did reduce the block rate to $109 to be fair. Anybody wanting that rate ,please hurry to reserve. Once the 15 rooms in the block are booked,I don't know that you will be able to get that senior rate. He told me that it was not supposed to be showing now that the senior rate was $109, but since it did show that,it would only be fair to change the block rate to $109.

I had posted earlier that Doubletree by Hilton in dowtown Newark was going to ask for a code. When I went down to sign the contract ,I was told you didn't need a code, just book under Newark High Class of 1968,50th Class Reunion.  the cost is $115 per night, and reservations need to be received by 7/23/18,or when the block

of 15 rooms has been filled, whichever comes first. Any remaining rooms may be released for individual sale at the cut-off date. that is the same for Courtyard by Marriott.  Hope to see many of our classmates there. I am getting excited!  Jan

Thank you for the room info - my wife, Jill, and I had our wedding reception at the Granville Inn October 7, 1972. We booked a Queen Room this August 23rd-26th for the rate of $127/night to relive those memories. Don't know if anyone else is interested in the Granville Inn, but i thought I woul let you know if anyone else is interested. This was listed as the King Room special online (we thought this was a great rate), but they had no King's left and gave us the rate for a Queen for all 3 nights.

I booked a room today at the Hampton Inn in Heath for $99/night.  That is the rate for Honors Discount Advance Purchase.  The only downside is that it cannot be cancelled.  Always keeping my fingers crossed as I get older & older.  Hoping to see a lot of people there.

I changed my reservation at Cherry Valley Lodge through Trivago. For all six nights, including the city tax, it was $512.91. I just had to cancel my previous reservation, and get the one through Trivago. It's even the same room.

Just a reminder about our next reunion meeting, Monday, March 12th, at 6:00 P.M. at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 57 Dorsey Mill Rd, in Heath.  We will meet in a classroom that you enter from the driveway between the church and rectory.  If you can arrive a little early, we will take a look at the social hall and the kitchen, where we will be holding our 50th reunion.  Hope to see you there!!

Here's the link to A Call to College - www.acalltocollege.org/donors.aspx.  I will also put this on our event page once it's published.  On the linked page is a PDF file of our 1968 donor form.  Download it (you need Adobe Acrobat Reader), print it, and fill it out.  Mail the form and your contribution to the scholarship fund to Call to College.  This scholarship fund is a wonderful tribute and memorial to the great class of 1968!!
